UNINTERRUPTED Returns To Downtown Vancouver Aug 17 - 28

UNINTERRUPTED-VR will be outdoors at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre on šxʷƛ̓exən Xwtl’a7shn plaza - August 17th - 28th

“The most amazing 24 minutes I’ve ever spent!” - Stephen Quinn, CBC Early Edition

After wowing audiences with virtual reality (VR) showings across Metro Vancouver this summer, UNINTERRUPTED-VR is returning to downtown Vancouver for a final run August 17th - 28th (dark on August 22nd & 23rd). The free event will be on the plaza next to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, recently named šxʷƛ̓exən Xwtl’a7shn in the languages of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.

UNINTERRUPTED, the outdoor cinematic spectacle that lit up Vancouver’s Cambie Bridge in the summer of 2017, is now public art on the move, touring in synchronized virtual reality.  No need to own a headset - one will be provided for you. The event is designed so audiences of twenty can be immersed in the experience together, while apart - bringing a little community connection back to local neighborhoods after a long year of pandemic restrictions.

UNINTERRUPTED-VR maps the extraordinary migration of Pacific salmon on a city bridge in a unique visual and sound experience. With visual poetry, it inspires audiences to reflect on the intersection of urban life and nature. It’s the heart of the river delivered to the heart of a city - and now to more cities than ever.

Seeing is believing. Click here to see a video clip of what you’ll find in the goggles.

Coming off at capacity nightly viewings in Vancouver at the Museum of Vancouver and North Vancouver at The Shipyards in July, UNINTERRUPTED-VR moves next to Burnaby - outdoors at the Burnaby Art Gallery (August 3rd - 13th) - where it’s fully booked already. Then it wraps up in downtown Vancouver (August 17th - 28th). TIckets for the final run will open shortly. Each audience member is fitted with a VR headset and seated in a swivel chair in order to enjoy the 360-degree experience. Seating is outdoors, and all equipment is sanitized between showings with ultraviolet light used to clean the sensitive equipment.

The event is free but seats must be booked in advance at uninterrupted.ca and tickets are expected to go quickly. Sign up to be notified at: https://uninterrupted.ca/sign-up-for-notifications.

The UNINTERRUPTED project continues to evolve through the creative collaboration of director Nettie Wild, producers Betsy Carson and Rae Hull, editor Michael Brockington and a diverse team of artists and media specialists. Support for this second Vancouver run is provided by the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association and Vancouver Civic Theatres. A committed network of sponsors has made the summer tour possible, ensuring the event remains free to the public.

We gratefully acknowledge that UNINTERRUPTED was filmed on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), Hupač́asath and the Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band of the Secwepemc Nation.
