Saskatoon's Gunner & Smith Release Their First Full Length Album on February 25th

For Immediate Release:
January 20th, 2014

Saskatoon, SK - Saskatoon band Gunner & Smith are set to independently release their first full-length album 'He Once Was a Good Man' on February 24th. The band will kick-off a tour in support of the album on February 21st with a showcase at the Folk Alliance International Conference in Kansas City, MI and then head to Western Canada for the remainder of the dates. For a full listing of tour dates, see below.

It’s been an eventful past four years for Gunner & Smith. Starting in 2010 as a solo project by folk artist Geoff Smith, the band evolved into a multi-member indie country rock ensemble that traverses the rocky line between post-prairies balladeering and grit-covered rockers for those given to heavy highway drives and long, expansive thoughts. Initially emerging from Smith’s one-man vision, Gunner & Smith released their first EP, 'Letter of Marque', in 2011. Featuring the lithe, lonely swaying sounds of Saskatchewan folk, country and rock, Smith quickly followed up his sparse debut release with his second EP entitled 'Compromise is a Loaded Gun' in August 2012.

After releasing their first two EP's, Gunner & Smith began to tour relentlessly throughout Canada, playing extensively throughout Alberta and their home province of Saskatchewan, as well as a sojourn through the eastern half of the country, which saw front man Geoff Smith spreading his wings and returning to his solo roots. Along the way, Gunner & Smith’s reputation as a live band began to grow as the group made appearances at festivals such as OMFEST, MoSo Fest, Lilac Festival and the prestigious Ness Creek Festival.

When it came time to record their first full length album 'He Once Was a Good Man', Gunner & Smith headed to The Avenue Recording Studio, located above Saskatoon's legendary music venue Amigo's Cantina. Joining the band in the studio were recording engineers Jordan Smith and Scott Neufeld along with The Deep Dark Woods’ Ryan Boldt at them helm in the producer’s chair. In addition to producing the album, Boldt (who has previously worked with prairies folk act Kacy and Clayton) also makes several appearances playing on the album.

On 'He Once Was a Good Man', Gunner & Smith find themselves with their most realized sound to date despite taking several different directions. It wasn’t until the band hit the studio that things became apparent and cohesive – a concept that was unintentionally synonymous with the band’s own journey into maturity.

“I like to write songs that are a story. I like to write about a feeling or something that I’ve experienced but I like to displace myself from that,” says Smith. “The title track is about a character who experiences life changes in a way that he can’t control. It’s about compromises and the consequences of those things.”

After a showcase at Folk Alliance International on February 21st, Gunner & Smith will hit the road with a string of Western Canadian tour dates through to March 9th. Don't miss out on your chance to see the band live! Gunner & Smith's first full-length album 'He Once Was A Good Man' will be available on iTunes and other fine digital retailers on February 25th. Additional tour dates may be added; check gunnerandsmith.com for the most up-to-date tour schedule.

Cara Luft Hits The Road For A Western Canadian Tour Starting On Jan 25th!

For Immediate Release:
January 13, 2014

Winnipeg, MB - Time flies, when you're out making music! It's hard to believe that it's been almost a year since singer/songwriter (and former Wailin' Jenny) Cara Luft last toured across Canada.  After a Western Canadian tour and several showcase performances at the International Folk Alliance in Toronto last February, Luft spent the majority of 2013 touring throughout the UK and Europe in support of her latest album 'Darlingford', with the odd touch-down back in North American to teach and perform at various summer festivals and music camps. Now 2014 finds her back in Canada, and on January 25th, Cara Luft will kick-off a Western Canadian Tour with a much-anticipated hometown show at The West End Cultural Centre in Winnipeg. Full tour dates are listed below.

On top of touring overseas last year, Cara Luft was chosen to represent Canada in a new musical collaboration project between Canada and the UK, alongside British artist Bella Hardy, a project spearheaded by Folk Music Canada and the English Folk Dance and Song Society.  Luft has spent time writing and recording songs with several different collaborators. "I've been doing some co-writing since 'Darlingford', particularly with Edmonton-area songwriter Karla Anderson, UK artist Bella Hardy, and my UK sideman Scott Poley", says Luft.  "A lot of the new material and song ideas are around the theme of home. I've been without a home since Christmas 2012 and it's something I long for. It's interesting to see how that desire has crept into my ideas for songs."

Though Cara Luft is working on songs for a new album, this upcoming tour is in support of her latest album 'Darlingford'. Released in June 2012 through Blue Case Tunes/Fontana North, the album received much critical acclaim and was one of the most played Canadian folk albums on the International Folk DJ list for 2013. Several of Cara's songs on 'Darlingford' made it as semi-finalists in both the International Songwriting Competition and the Unsigned Only Competition.  The Globe & Mail stated “it can’t be done, so don’t even try to turn away from the affecting insistence of Luft,” while Beatroute Magazine called the disc “the strongest and most interesting release that Luft has put out yet, either as a member of the Wailin’ Jenny’s or as a solo performer.” No Depression raved about the album, saying “Cara knocks our socks off with her best recorded work to date,” calling her “a formidable songwriter and performer, setting the bar for the talented few who’ll follow in her footsteps.” Cover Lay Down declared the disc “a tour de force of contemporary folk.” The American blog Adobe and Teardrops wrote, “'Darlingford' really is that excellent,” with only one complaint: that Cara was Canadian and not American, stating “we can’t claim her as a national treasure.”

Luft is clearly at home on the stage, and invites audiences into her world with a rare and endlessly appealing confidence and humility.  Reviewers of Cara’s live shows talk about her superb musicianship, her humourous anecdotes, her ability to switch between styles, her accomplished songwriting, and the charm of her stage presence. That charm and confidence won her a 2013 Galaxie Rising Star Award, as well as a recording grant at one of Canada's newest analog recording studios.  Cara’s the real deal, there’s nothing pretentious about her, so don't miss out on your chance to catch Cara Luft live on tour across Western Canada. Full dates listed below. More dates and a tour of Eastern Canada will be announced this spring! For more info, please visit: www.caraluft.com

Unlike your typical show, the String Fling Concert is an evening where the music is tied together by strings. Taking their combined years of classical, jazz, folk and other musical training to the test, Four on the Floor is presenting indie music in a new sonic dimension. And there's plenty to look forward to at this year's show! Each artist will perform 3 songs with Four on the Floor and the quartet also will be performing in between each set with original pieces as well as covers. And according to event organizer and Four on the Floor member Michelle Faehrmann, the evening will also include a little something extra: "Live visual projections are going to be provided by Mind of a Snail Puppet Co, who have recently worked with Hannah Epperson, The Fringe Festival Opening Gala, and the EatArt New Years Eve Party. It should make for a great night!"

Although there wasn't a String Fling Concert in 2013, the Four on the Floor String Quartet plan to make the concert an annual event moving forward, so be sure to come out and support it! The Bros. Landreth Kick Off 2014 With More Canadian Tour Dates!

For Immediate Release:
January 7th, 2014

Winnipeg, MB - 2013 was a heck of a year for Winnipeg band The Bros. Landreth - they released their debut album 'Let It Lie' to much critical acclaim, toured across the country twice, had their video 'Tappin On The Glass'  added at CMT and ZUUS Country and received significant radio airplay nationally on CBC, Galaxie and college radio. And with the new year upon us, The Bros. Landreth are showing no signs of slowing down with the announcement of another Canadian Tour starting on January 16th in Regina!

Brothers Joey and David Landreth have spent the last decade supporting some of Canada’s most talented artists, developing a reputation for their exceptional musicianship. They’ve played with everyone from Doc Walker to Imaginary Cities and now they are finally taking the plunge into a project that is uniquely their own. With their debut album 'Let It Lie', The Bros. Landreth leave the esoteric behind in favor of delivering stories simply, never letting their road-proven musicality stand in the way of the songs speaking for themselves. It begins with the upbeat 'Our Love', which tells the story of a relationship at the end of it’s rope. 'Runaway Train' features their musician father, Wally Landreth, sharing vocal duties and the guitar driven 'Goin’ To the Country' is an opportunity to hear the band dig in. After one listen, you'll realize it's hard to put your finger on what exactly The Bros. Landreth sound like. Their music has been called Alt-Country, Roots, Folk and even "Eagles 2.0". Give the album a listen and decide for yourself!

Marcio Novelli Kicks Off Eastern Canadian Tour In Halifax On November 25th!

For Immediate Release:

Toronto, ON - Hamilton-based vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Marcio Novelli has had a busy 2013 so far! He released his debut album 'It's Not An Excuse, It's A Reason,' had the premiere of his music documentary 'Walking Proof' at the Reel Indie Film Festival in Toronto, was nominated for 2 Awards at the 2013 Hamilton Music Awards and he's now heading to Halifax to kick-off an Eastern Canadian Tour on November 25th.

When it came time to record his debut full length album 'It's Not An Excuse, It's A Reason',  Marcio Novelli managed to get the entire album recorded and mixed front-to-back in just 2 weeks. Overseeing writing, arrangement and composition while also taking care of vocals, guitars, bass, piano, keyboards, programming, strings and percussion, Novelli looked after nearly every musical aspect of the album's ten songs. And thanks to the enduring skills of powerhouse producer Jim Wirt (Incubus, Jack's Mannequin) and engineer Nick Blagona (Green Day, The Police), it's hard not to take notice of this incredible debut album.

The 2 week process of recording his debut album was one that Novelli wanted to have documented. He enlisted the help of director Matthew Dorman and together they created a music documentary entitled 'Walking Proof', chronicling the creation of his first studio album. 'Walking Proof' is now available for purchase as a CD/DVD combo with 'It's Not An Excuse, It's A Reason' on Marcio's website. The documentary had it's premiere at the Reel Indie Film Festival in Toronto and received glowing reviews, including a 5 star review from Canadian Film Review.

Novelli recently released the video for 'Doctor Please' the album's first single and it's already received over 100,000 views after only being up for just over a month.
