The 14th Annual Music Therapy Ride Raises Over $83,000!

Riders Braved The Wind & Rain To Raise
Money For Music Therapy In BC!

For Immediate Release:
September 8th, 2015

(Vancouver, BC) - TheMusic Therapy RideCommittee is pleased to announce that the 14th annual Music Therapy Ride raised over $83,000! The 2015 Music Therapy Ride took place on Saturday, August 29th despite riding head-on into the biggest rain and wind storm of the year. Many of the registered riders switched to cars for the police escorted ride from Vancouver to Whistler and the ride was still able to maintain 80% of the registrants.

The success of the 2015 Music Therapy Ride comes as a result of fourteen years of dedication, support and generosity.  Since the first ride back in 2001, the Music Therapy Ride has raised close to $900,000 for the Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund.

"We are extremely grateful to all the wonderful participants and supporters of the Music Therapy Ride who braved the weather to step up and contribute to the success of this years ride. Stay tuned for details about our 15th anniversary in 2016 and help us achieve our goal of surpassing $1,000,000 for music therapy services."   - Shaw Saltzberg & Patrick Zulinov, Co-chairmen Music Therapy Ride

The money raised from the Music Therapy Ride is used to help create new music therapy programs and expand and bring well deserved attention to existing programs. It is also used to support the building, maintenance and continued use of mobile recording studios designed specifically for music therapists called Bandwagons. These mobile studios contain recording software, sound processing equipment and a variety of musical instruments. To date, the Music Therapy Ride has funded the creation of 3 Bandwagons and assisted music therapy programs all across BC.

The Music Therapy RideCommittee would like to thank The Vancouver Police Motorcycle Drill Team for fourteen years of incredible support. The committee would also like to thank High Valley, Shaun Verreault,  Edgewater Casino, Chances Squamish, Garibaldi Lift Co., the local music industry, extensive media partners and the motorcycle community.

Red Moon Road To Release New Album on September 11th // Video Premiere on Exclaim!

TOUR DATES STARTING ON SEPTEMBER 11th

WATCH 'BEAUTY IN THESE BROKEN BONES' VIDEO ON EXCLAIM!:

For Immediate Release:
August 12, 2015

Vancouver, BC - Winnipeg folk/roots trio, Red Moon Road, are pleased to announce the release of a brand new full length studio album 'Sorrows and Glories' on September 11th and the premiere of the live studio video for the first single 'Beauty In These Broken Bones' on Exclaim.ca today. Watch the video here.Red Moon Road will celebrate the new release with an Album Release Show in their hometown at the West End Cultural Centre on September 11th. The show marks the start of a string of North American tour dates in support of the album throughout the fall. See below for full tour listings.

'Sorrows and Glories' is Red Moon Road's third release and second full-length album to date. The trio released their debut self-titled full-length in 2011 and followed it up with the EP 'Tales From The Whiteshell' in 2013.

In collaboration with engineer/producer, and multiple Juno recipient, David Travers-Smith (Wailin’ Jennys/Ruth Moody) and award winning producer/player Murray Pulver (Doc Walker/Steve Bell), the album delivers 13 masterfully crafted original compositions. A multifarious sonic adventure, it is at once a bold new step in the evolution of the band, yet a continuation of Red Moon Road’s singular and captivating ability to spin song and story into something more.

“We called the album 'Sorrows and Glories’ because it is reflective of our journey over the last couple of years,” explains lead singer Sheena Rattai. “Just over 2 years ago I broke my leg quite severely and we had to cancel all upcoming tour dates as I recovered. While the healing process has been long and arduous it has also certainly been a source of inspiration and evolution. Though it seemed like a set back we emerged stronger and with a wealth of new experiences to draw from.”

'Sorrows and Glories' is an album full of surprises. From a Beatle-esque pop song about an historic apartment complex, to a full-on spiritual backed by a star studded choir, the sprawling 11-song masterwork is artfully framed with original and innovative instrumental work, and prominently features the unmistakable vocal prowess of the soulful Sheena Rattai, one of Canada’s true emerging songstresses.

The 'Sorrows and Glories' release tour will showcase the impressive new instrumental presentation Red Moon Road wields in its live show.  A roots drum kit cunningly split between two band members, an acoustic guitar that also sounds its two lowest strings as a bass, a powerhouse lead female vocalist, a moustached man playing Mandolin, Lap Steel, Banjo and Organ (often at the same time) and impeccably timed three part harmonies. It’s hard to believe such a full sound comes from three people.

Red Moon Road's new album 'Sorrows and Glories' will be available online at iTunes and all other digital retailers on Friday, September 11th. Red Moon Road will be touring in support of the album starting with their Album Release Show in Winnipeg at the West End Cultural Centre on September 11th. Winnipeg Band Hearing Trees Release New EP 'Dear Sahara' on August 28th

CANADIAN TOUR DATES STARTING ON SEPTEMBER 11th
WATCH VIDEO FOR 'SAHARA':

For Immediate Release:
August 6th, 2015

(Winnipeg, MB) - Winnipeg indie rockers Hearing Trees are set to release their sophomore EP 'Dear Sahara' on August 28th and to celebrate, they're releasing the video for the first single - the frenetic, captivating track 'Sahara.' Watch the video here. The band will also embark on a Canadian Tour in support of the EP, starting in Brandon on September 11th and ending back in Winnipeg on October 2nd with an Album Release Show at the West End Cultural Centre. See below for a full listing of tour dates.

Known for incorporating slam-style poetry into performances, Hearing Trees takes you from anxiety-laced post-punk to uplifting sing-along choruses that garner comparisons to Interpol, Matthew Good, R.E.M, and Tragically Hip. Frontman Graham Hnatiuk’s backdrop of reference-filled lyrics grasp the gritty, dry edge of modern life — from Canadian soldiers coming home from the Spanish civil war, to kayaking in the Arctic Circle, through a swath of eclectic shards of culture.

Their sophomore EP, 'Dear Sahara,' produced by Michael P Falk (Les Jupes, Head in the Sand) is a marked evolution in maturity for the band. It is also an art project, featuring handwritten lyrics, liner notes and sketches, in singer Hnatiuk’s distinctive style. Through a theme of letter writing, 'Dear Sahara' explores uncertainties about relationships, paths in life, and the anxiety of youth; Hnatiuk lives with depression and following a serious episode in 2009, he left school to pursue music, art and writing.

"There is life after a destructive force. Letting the earthquake swallow you is a good way to learn how to dig out," Hnatiuk explains.

The band released their debut self-titled EP in November 2014 and toured in early 2015, with great showings at the legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto and the Rainbow Bistro in Ottawa. In their short time on the Winnipeg scene, Hearing Trees carved out a reputation for an exciting live show and have opened for prominent local bands such as Mariachi Ghost, Indicator Indicator and Sc Mira.

Hearing Trees is embedded into the Winnipeg arts scene, which includes "Suite 421," the band’s rehearsal space and custom venue, where up-and-coming artists share the walls and stage for a completely bespoke, 100% local show every few months. Singer Hnatiuk is also involved in the Winnipeg slam poetry community and was a part of the inaugural “Folk’n Word” in Winnipeg, an event pairing musicians with spoken word artists and slam poets for a night of artistic fusion at the West End Cultural Centre. He also regularly publishes poetry, musings about struggles with depression and anxiety, and the occasional non-fiction to the band's website and tumblr.

Hearing Trees' new EP 'Dear Sahara' will be available online at iTunes and all other digital retailers on Friday, August 28th. Hearing Trees will be touring in support of the EP starting in Brandon on September 11th. Please visit hearingtreesmusic.com for more information and the most up to date tour listings.

David Newberry To Release New Album on September 11th

Newberry_Client.jpg
CANADIAN TOUR DATES STARTING ON SEPTEMBER 11th
WATCH LIVE VIDEO FOR TITLE TRACK 'REPLACEMENT THINGS':

For Immediate Release:
August 6, 2015

(Vancouver, BC) - Toronto-based singer/songwriter David Newberry is set to independently release his 3rd full-length album 'Replacement Things' on September 11th and will tour in support of the album, starting with a string of Western Canadian dates that will bring him back to his former home city of Vancouver in September. Newberry plans to follow-up the Western Canadian Tour with dates in Ontario and Quebec in October and November, including album release shows in Toronto at the Cameron House. Full confirmed tour schedule is listed below.

Produced by Jesse Gander (Japandroids, PACK AD, White Lung), 'Replacement Things' represents a further progression from Newberry's origins in roots music towards a more alt/indie-rock sound and style of production, but without losing his emphasis on the song being the most important thing, or sacrificing his keen observational and even somewhat political edge. That said, this is a significantly more personal album for Newberry, and it has led him into somewhat uncomfortable territory.

"There are things on the album like the break-up of a ten year relationship and navigating the changes that come with new romances, crises of confidence in music, friends dying and learning about mortality, making some big mistakes and trying to own them, or discovering and coming to terms with an anxiety disorder," Newberry explains. "None of that stuff has ever been explicitly a part of my artistic life. My previous records have always been fairly outward looking, whereas this one is a bit more inward looking. It’s uncomfortable stuff, but it's all there on the record."

Always a poet, David Newberry became a musician through pain: While working as a carpenter’s assistant in 2001, an altercation with a tablesaw left him without the use of his left hand. When his physiotherapist suggested he learn an instrument as a means to strengthen his injured appendage, David began playing the guitar and emerged quickly as a poet with a hankering for noise. Newberry released his debut record 'When We Learn The Things We Need to Learn' in 2010, catching the attention of such musical icons as Juno winner David Francey, who calls Newberry "absolutely brilliant," and Exclaim!, who pegged him “an artist to watch." In 2012, Newberry followed up on his debut success with another critic-favourite full length 'No One Will Remember You,'  and he released of a shortrun EP called 'Desire Lines' in February 2014. The EP was a marked shift away from the acoustic singer/songwriter feel of his earlier releases, offering sharper edged guitars, synthesizer, and creatively aggressive percussion. On his newest effort, he goes even further, collaborating with some of Vancouver’s indie-royalty, including songwriters Veda Hille, Jenny Ritter, J.P. Maurice, as well as drummer/composer Kenton Loewen (Dan Mangan & Blacksmith, The Crackling).

Newberry has toured extensively throughout the last five years and has shared stages with such artists as The Milk Carton Kids, The Strumbellas, Julie Doiron, and The Bros. Landreth, while putting a number of prominent BC and Alberta festival appearances under his belt, including Rifflandia and South Country Fair. In 2013/2014, he was named one of the Top 12 Artists in British Columbia’s prestigious Peak Performance Project.

David Newberry's new album 'Replacement Things' will be available online at iTunes and all other digital retailers on Friday, September 11th. Newberry will be touring in support of the album starting in Victoria, BC, on album release day with more tour dates to follow throughout the fall.
