(Vancouver, BC) - Victoria-based indie-soul pop group Lovecoast are thrilled to announce the release of their debut full-length album The Trip on April 27th with the video premiere of their new single 'Motion' on PopMatters today. The new track follows the album's first single 'Lonely' which was released late last year. Lovecoast will be hitting the road and touring Western Canada in support of their new music starting on March 27th. See below for full tour schedule.
Since their inception in 2013, Lovecoast has been delivering a new sound that won’t go unnoticed. By "bringing together modern day indie pop and blue-eyed ’70s R&B” (Ride the Tempo), the band has created something bouncy and infectious. Lovecoast finds inspiration in modern acts like the Cat Empire and Lake Street Dive, and classic legends such as Billie Holiday and Bruce Springsteen.
With the release of their debut EP Chasing Tides in 2014, Lovecoast began riding a wave of success due to their extensive tour schedule which helped to hone their incredible live show. And with the much anticipated release of their debut full-length album The Trip on April 27th, the group plans to continue riding that wave. On this new album, the band defines who they are. From love songs to let downs, the band's retro-centric pop sound has never been more clear and you can feel that message in their new single 'Motion'.
"'Motion' was one of those songs that fell together really quickly, mainly because the storyline is something I've lived through in basically all of my 20-something relationships prior to the one I'm in now," says Lovecoast vocalist Danielle Sweeney. "Commitment is a hard pill to swallow for a lot of people around my age, but the need for human touch and emotion is still strong. So to please both our urge to stay and our urge to run we play this cat and mouse game with not only the other person's emotions, but also our own. It took me a long time to realize that letting yourself love is much easier on your heart and mind. 'Motion' is kinda all about the long path taken to that discovery."
If the new music feels more intimate, that's certainly intentional. Danielle suffered a personal loss when the group was recording The Trip and working on the new music was a way to bury herself in the creative process and to somehow find a way through her grief.
"We started writing the record just 3 months before my Granny passed away from cancer, which was something that really turned my world upside down," says Danielle. "Shuffling through old photos and watching family videos had me in a heavy stage of grief for far longer than I'd like to admit. Working on this album with the band was the one thing that really got me out of it. Vintage photos of my Granny are shown on the cover and throughout our album art, and her sassy, independent and loving personality is weaved through the songs lyrics and melodies."
Both the Chasing Tides EP and their new LP The Trip were produced by Tom Dobrzanski (Said The Whale, The Zolas) at Monarch Studios in Vancouver. Chasing Tides received much critical acclaim and several film and TV placements around its release. The stand-out track 'The Floor' currently has over 75K streams on Spotify.
Lovecoast's new single 'Motion' is available today on Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, and other digital retailers and streaming services. Look for their debut full length album The Trip on all platforms on Friday, April 27th. For more information and the most up to date tour schedule, please visit: Lovecoastmusic.com.
